10 Observation in 10-1 loss

RailCats Lose 10-1

20-30

6th in the East

  1. The trend of starting pitchers giving up multi-inning runs continued with Chris Erwin giving up 3 runs in the 1st, which broke his 0 earned run streak that dates back to June 20th against the Goldeyes
  1. Chris Erwin was having control issues that led to multiple wild pitches and seemed to cross up Edwards on some pitches, leading to passed balls.
  1. Looking at the weather conditions. The wind was blowing to the left center and it was cloudy. What that leads to is a ball that is skyed into the air can cause a player to lose the ball in the clouds, and with the wind, it could move the ball further, even if you think you’re underneath it.
  1. Chris Erwin’s start wasn’t the prettiest as he went 4.2 innings pitched, gave up 5 runs on 6 hits, 5 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
  1. The RailCats offense couldn’t touch the Monarchs’ starting pitcher, Julian Garcia, as he went 5.1 innings, allowing only 2 hits, 2 walks, and 10 strikeouts. He also didn’t allow a run.
  1. Jackson Valera extended his hit streak to 4 games with a single in the 5th, and Gio Diaz extended his on-base streak to 4 with a walk in the 6th.
  1. We saw Destin Dotson make his second appearance with the RailCats in the 8th inning, and it was a rough one; he threw 14 straight balls before he threw a strike. He only pitched one inning and gave up 4 runs on 1 hit and 6 walks.
  1. The Monarchs scored 3 runs in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd, 1 in the 7th, and 4 in the 8th. The Monarchs scored 10 runs on 11 hits, walked 11 times, and struck out 3 times.
  1. The RailCats’ offense was very quiet in this one. They only scored one run, which came when the bases were loaded and Marcos Gonzalez grounded into a double play, allowing Francisco Del Valle to score. The ‘Cats only had 3 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 14 times in this game.
  2. The Railcats will drop to 20-32 on the season. They would lose the 3-game series and split the season series with back-to-back losses in this series. The RailCats have dropped their third straight series after winning three straight series. The RailCats will travel to Sioux Falls to take on the Canaries, who are 32-19 on the year and are in 1st place in the West.
